Infectious Diseases & One Health
Research program focusing on infectious diseases & one health.
The Infectious Diseases & One Health Division, under the Research and Product Development Directorate, advances multidisciplinary research, innovation and product development to address infectious and communicable diseases, zoonoses and emerging health threats.
Our work brings together expertise in Virology; Microbiology, Parasitology & Vector Biology; Immunology & Vaccine Development; Zoonotic, Biosurveillance & Disease Ecology; and Climate & Health. This integrated approach enables the Division to study pathogens and disease transmission across the human, animal and environmental interface while strengthening surveillance, early detection and preparedness for emerging and re-emerging health threats.
The Kenya Institute of Primate Research has a One Health Centre started in 2020 as a COVID-19 testing centre and is now a fully equipped laboratory which was funded by Government of Kenya.
The Centre has four thematic areas:
1. Infectious disease,Disease Surveillance and Pathogen Discovery
2. Microbiome and Antimicrobial Resistance
3. Molecular and Sero-Diagnostics
4. Global Epidemiology, Modelling and Informatics
