KIPRE, under the guidance of The Ministry of Health, today held an inaugural meeting with officials from Nairobi Enterprises Limited (NEL) to initiate the development of an East Africa-specific snake antivenom.
The meeting focused on strengthening collaboration in research and development, with key discussions centering on improving the efficacy, safety and quality of the antivenom currently available in the market, as well as advancing the development of a region-specific product to address the burden of snakebite envenoming in East Africa.
KIPRE was led by its Director General, Dr. Peter Mwethera, while Nairobi Enterprises Limited was represented by its Managing Director, Mr. Rajan Dhanani.
The partnership marks an important milestone in Kenya's efforts to enhance local production of life-saving biological products and underscores the commitment of both institutions to advancing scientific innovation, improving public health outcomes, and ensuring access to effective antivenom for communities across the region.
