From Research to Impact: Connecting Agriculture, Health and Innovation

Kenya Institute of Primate Research - KIPRE proudly participated in the Agriculture & Food Systems Transformation Summit 2026, held from 7-9 October at ASK Jamhuri Park Showgrounds, Nairobi. Hosted by Hon. Mutahi Kagwe, Cabinet Secretary for Agriculture and Livestock Development, the Summit was officially opened by Deputy President H.E. Kithure Kindiki and graced by H.E. President William Ruto, alongside national leaders and stakeholders committed to transforming Kenya’s agricultural sector.

KIPRE showcased its research and innovations, which address critical health challenges affecting agricultural communities and advance healthier communities, resilient livelihoods and a more productive agricultural sector.

Highlights included our snakebite research and interventions, including efforts to develop locally relevant antivenom solutions and map snakebite hotspots, addressing risks faced by farmers, pastoralists, livestock and rural communities, with implications for livelihoods and food security.

We also showcased Smugel and Smuscan, KIPRE’s patented lubricant formulations supporting clinical examinations, safer childbirth, personal intimacy and the management of vaginal dryness associated with reproductive health conditions, including among women affected by female genital mutilation (FGM). Our crucial work in reproductive health contributes to the health, wellbeing and productivity of the people and communities at the heart of Kenya’s agricultural sector.

KIPRE was honoured to welcome Hon. @Hassan Ali Joho, EGH, Cabinet Secretary for Mining, Blue Economy and Maritime Affairs, to its exhibition booth.

A proud milestone was receiving the Best Research and Innovation Award, recognising KIPRE’s commitment to advancing biomedical research and developing locally relevant solutions to Kenya’s health challenges.

When research meets real-world needs, innovation becomes impact
